Carole Cepeda

Carole Cepeda was diagnosed as Angiosarcoma, a rare liver cancer, on January 5th, 2013. Her primary doctor told her that she has 6 months to live. There is no cure for this cancer. She is fighting to survive and seeking advices for help. We are asking disciples around the Kingdom to prayer that God will heal her and He can perform a miracle making her cancer-free.

I love my wife very much and I am so grateful that we have been married for over 7 years. My wife taught me how to be gentle to her and others. We are going through difficult times. I am grateful to be humble and open to disciples, sharing how I have been feeling about my wife’s terminal illness.

Carole has inspired the Deaf Ministry around the world and been a spiritual support and encouragement to the brothers and sisters in the Kingdom.

In Christ,

Joe Cepeda

9th Open-Caption Movie

On December 14th, 2012, DOCM (Deaf Open-Caption Movies), viewed “The Hobbit” for it’s 9th deaf event. As we close 2012, we’re excited to announce 7/9 movie events were sold out. It shows that the community likes the movies that have been picked every month. Thanks for a great year 🙂

The Hobbit is the prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. While the book was originally one volume (as opposed to the three Lord of the Rings books), director Peter Jackson decided to divide The Hobbit into three separate movies. So how was the first movie of the trilogy? Fantastic! The Hobbit is filled with action, adventure, and 3D animation that you can find in the Lord of the Rings movies. The film certainly ranks up among the other top action movies of the year: The Avengers and The Dark Night Rises. The plot was a bit more childish than the former three movies, but the adventure was equally thrilling. As always, the graphics were stunning.

As we close 2012, we would like to give one more special thanks from DOCM and the Deaf Community to Brandon Wheeler, Manager for Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Stone Oak. Brandon has been a huge part of our events all year long. His tremendous support for the deaf community has been a blessing to us. Brandon, you are and will always be awesome in our eyes. Thank you!

Also as we close the year 2012, we applause Michael for all his hard work with creating, making and promoting our monthly DOCM flyers at the San Antonio College Interpreter Program and Facebook. We know we would not have been so successful for informing the community about our monthly movie events if it wasn’t for you. Thank you!

Important News: The monthly DOCM movie events has been relocated to another theater. The new location will be at the Alamo Drafthouse at the Park North. Friends in the Deaf Community suggested to Joe and Michael that this would be the best theater. Lately the movies have been sold out, and this theater is bigger! The more people come, the merrier the events will be. We will love to see our events to expand. So please be aware of the new change starting in January 2013.

A friendly reminder, all of our DOCM events are on Facebook. Once logged on, you can view the selections offered and vote. If you are new, you can create a username and password, then join the fun 🙂 Please log onto Facebook and type in DOCM for the vote poll. If you have not signed up, please do so. Once signed in, you will be able to read the post and vote.

We look forward to seeing everyone again at the 10th DOCM event in January 2013. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!

Sincerely,

DOCM

ASL Petition

I am writing to encourage Deaf Ministry ICOC family and disciples in the Kingdom to sign the ASL (American Sign Language) petition to support from the Deaf Community for allowing the White House to pass the law for ASL to become a official language and no longer considered as a foreign language. White House need about 8,290 to get the total of 25,000 signatures by Wednesday, December 12, 2012. Let reach that goal before the deadline then the Deaf Community will celebrate this special moment in history.

More info about this petition can be found at https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/officially-recognize-american-sign-language-community-language-and-language-instruction-schools/CRPw2JLk

Luke 18: 27 “The Things Which Are Impossible with Men Are Possible with God”

Hello, my name is Courtney Branson and I wanted to share my story I experienced from the Annual CSU Northridge Deaf Service 2012 that was held on on the evening of October 14th. The service was not only inspiring, encouraging, convicting, and challenging, but it was a service that gave me bigger dreams and visions that God has for the Deaf Ministry.

At this particular service, a father and son (Gregg and Zachary Lotane) preached the Word of God. The message was about how past experiences and relationships in our life can affect our future relationship with God. Gregg spoke about his personal experience growing up in a family with little religious background while, Zach shared about his experience growing up in the church. It was very convicting to know, whatever we go through in our life that God is calling us to have a personal relationship with Jesus and at the same time Satan is battling for our souls as well.

As requested and presented at the service, the Deaf Ministry provided sign language interpreters to voice interpret for anyone who lacks knowledge and understanding with American Sign Language. All the interpreters did a great job as well as Leslie who volunteered to interpreted a song named “Change” by Rascal Flatts. The song was very touching to my heart and made me grateful for my relationship I have with the Lord, Jesus!

Followed after the service, attendance’s stayed for Subway sandwiches with chips and drinks which was provided by the church. It was an awesome evening of fellowship with both deaf and hearing individuals. The fellowship could not have been any better!

I want to share my own personal encouragement news! While I was on my way to the service, I prayed with my roommate for specific people I had met the night before. They are awesome people and I invited them to attend the service the next following night. They expressed and accepted my invitation. Sometimes, I feel that my faith can be weak, thinking “Can God really do this? Is it possible God will send my invitees to church?” I can have doubts at times during my walk with God. During my prayer, I thanked God for the people I met and invited. I expressed my faith in God’s work that He can do anything possible. God not only listened to my requested prayer, but He responded. Both of the people I invited came out! Its always great to be reminded that God can do anything that’s possible. All I need is a little faith the size of a mustard seed and God will do the rest! Its always great to see God working and moving in the Deaf Ministry.

7th Open-Caption Movie

Greetings Deaf Community!

On October 6th, 2012, DOCM (Deaf Open-Caption Movies), had its 7th movie released!  This month was Taken 2!  What an event it was to attend!

A goal of DOCM and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Stone Oak was to have a sold out event and indeed … it was!  Just 45 minutes before the movie started, the last ticket was sold!  What an action movie!  Liam Nelson (Leading Actor) had us on the edge of our seats waiting for the next unexpected to happen.  The movie was well done and worth watching at the big screen with THX sound system.  If you did not attend, you missed out on a great movie!

After the movie was over, the Deaf community gathered and talked about what they just saw and became a great social event.  Not only discussed about the movie, but we were able to catch up on news since we see each other once a month!

Our special thanks from DOCM (Joe Cepeda and Michael Razzen) and the Deaf Community to Brandon Wheeler, Manager for Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Stone Oak.  Brandon has been a great support to the Deaf Community on a monthly basis.  Without him, the event would not have happened!  Thanks Brandon.  You are much appreciated by us!
